Infrastructure Construction in Africa to 2021 - Key Highlights

  • Published:Wednesday, December 20, 2017

Infrastructure construction in Africa is expected to grow rapidly, reaching around US$196 billion in 2021. The continent is benefiting from increasing private investment, better macroeconomic policy management and a more diversified economic structure.

According to Timetric’s Construction Intelligence Center (IIC), total infrastructure construction output in Africa will reach US$196 billion in 2021, up from US$126 billion in 2016, expanding at an annual average rate of over 9% in nominal US$ terms.

The fastest growing region is set to be East Africa, expanding at an annual average rate of 13.4%, mainly because of the fast pace of growth in Ethiopia. Southern Africa is forecast to expand at a relatively sluggish pace (of 5.0%) over this period, while the other regions will grow in line with Africa as a whole.
